Hunting is not a passion, its an obsession! Dean Hulce guides you in God’s Word from a sportsmen’s perspective.
Luke 24:32 (NIV)
They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
For those of you hunters reading this today you know that Mossy Oak Camouflage is the number one selling camo pattern in the country. Some of you have heard Toxey Haas, the owner and originator of Mossy Oak say that, “it all began with a fistful of dirt.”. Toxey believes as I do that God showed him that from that fistful of dirt, along with the leaves and sticks mixed in, he could make a camouflage pattern that would be like no other.
Mossy Oak’s motto says, “It’s not a passion, it’s an obsession”. They are talking about hunting and for their obsession for making good camo. But it hit me that this is the way my spiritual life should be. If God truly is my creator and He truly sent His Son to die for me… How could I not be obsessed with Him and His love for me?
What is an obsession? Obsession has been defined this way.
an idea or thought that continually preoccupies or intrudes on a person’s mind. As in, “he was in the grip of an obsession he was powerless to resist”
That’s what we should each want for our lives, an obsession for God that we are “powerless to resist.”. When our thoughts of godly things are continually preoccupying and intruding on our everyday life.
Not many of us have known true hunger or thirst. We might have been a little uncomfortable concerning something to eat or drink… But a true desperate need for food or drink is how I would consider how I should be desiring God and His word.
I hope that for you and me, He will become your obsession not just your passion.
